2017 MTV EMAs: As Taylor Swift Fails, Shawn Mendes Leads | View Full Winners List

Taylor Swift Fails Totally with no Award for the night as Shawn Mendes Lead – winning four of the nominated five categories.

The 2017 edition of the renowned MTV organized annual music award and ceremony – MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) – was held last night at The SSE Arena in Wembley, LondonUnited Kingdom. The eventful night filled with glamours, gained an enthralling performances from the slated performers for the night.

For the real deal of the night which is the award proper, Taylor Swift failed to justify her nomination – leading the nominees list as announced early last month with six nods. Notably is her failure to even grab an award for the night with sensational Shawn Mendes who gained five nominations, leads with four accolades to himself.

The 19-year-old, who hails from Toronto, Canada and first found success on the video-sharing site Vine, took home the prizes for “Best Artist”, “Best Canadian Act”, “Biggest Fans” and “Best Song” which was delivered to him by Manchester United star, Paul Labile Pogba and Game of Thrones actress, Natalie Dormer.

The ceremony was hosted by Rita Ora, who at one point sported a dressing gown on stage. She also collected the inaugural power of music award on behalf of the artists involved in Simon Cowell’s Grenfell Tower charity single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Jared Leto’s band Thirty Seconds to Mars won best alternative act, and Leto used his time on stage to discuss immigration, saying: “We are Americans, a land of immigrants, and we just want to say we welcome you with open arms and open hearts and we love you.”

Performers on the night included Eminem, who showcased new single Walk on Water, and Stormzy, who delivered his song Big for Your Boots from a police car. The London rapper was also referenced by Bono during the ceremony, with the musician singing part of Stormzy’s Blinded By Your Grace Pt 2 while accepting U2’s award for global icon.
